Children's Day Celebration in My School

Today was a special day, as it was Children's Day.  I was happy that today at school we would celebrate Children's Day.  I was the first child to go to my class.  After we had our lunch, our teacher let us do whatever we wanted to do.  We were very happy.  In the eighth period, our teacher told us to form a line and to to the Main Assembly Hall.  I had lots of fun with my friends.  Our teachers performed many dances, skits and songs.  After the programme was over they gave us a Milky Bar chocolate to each of us.

Today we got up at 4 am and wore new dress and proceeded by car to Kodaikanal.  We started from home around 6 am and arrived Kodaikanal around 10:30 am.  When we reached our place of stay, the caretaker opened the compound gate for us to park our car inside. Then we went inside the cottage and it was quite spacious.  I removed my slippers but since it was chill, I wore them again.  Then we went walking for lunch to Tibetan Restaurant.  There my father had beef fried rice and momo (made of minced beef and onion).  My mother had two chapatis and my brother and I had noodles.  I could not eat all the noodles and so I gave the rest to my mother and father.  On the way back to cottage, we bought homemade chocolates.  In the afternoon, we took rest and had chocolates in the evening. Late in the evening, our uncle, my cousin and his wife came by car to the cottage. My father took them for dinner, but we did not go as we did not feel hungry.  At night, around 1 am, my mother and brother could not sleep due to chill weather and so just they opened the door to see whether they could see any bison but they did not see any bison in front of the cottage and they slept again.

The following day, Sunday, we attended church service and visited Anna Botanical Garden.  The flamboyant colours of the flowers were a feast to our eyes.  We went for boating on Monday and in the afternoon, we left for home.   The weather is so pleasant and wonderful that there is no dust in the atmosphere and the air is pure. The pleasant weather made us enjoy walking everywhere and we avoided car to the maximum except going to distant places. If not walking, what else we visit Kodaikanal for?

Rose Plants in our Home

Rose Plant Blossoming in Abundance
Beautiful to see many flowers in a single rose plant
I like plants and particularly rose plants.  We have rose flower plants blossoming in yellow, pink and red.  Usually, we could see two or three flowers blossoming in all the plants that we have. One particular day, I could see more than five flowers in a single plant.  I was so happy because of many flowers in a single plant and at the same time quite sad because all would almost wither at the same time.  So, I plucked three flowers, one for my mom and two for me.  Rose plants are really beautiful indeed, whether they are on plants or adorning one's hair.

Medicinal Plants Chart - School Project

Medical Plants grown at homes in India
Our teacher asked us to do a project on Indian home medicinal plants.  The project was to bring whatever medicinal plants we had at home.  In our home, we have nearly five medicinal plants.  They are Aloe Vera, Hibiscus, Omavalli (in Tamil Language), Lemon Tree, and Neem Tree.  And of course we have many other plants as well.  Other students brought some of the plants that I had and other medicinal plants.  Our teacher explained to us about the various medicinal plants we brought to the class.  Here in this chart, you find some of the medicinal plants, we have at home.

In India, a very common medicinal plant is Tulsi which is good for cold and cold related sickness.  In the present days, many people take Indian traditional medicine for long term medication for certain diseases like skin allergy, asthma, etc.  These medicinal plants do not have any side effects. So, why not give a try?

Visit to Alagarkoil

Alagarkoil Temple, Madurai, India
Today we went field trip to Alagarkoil by our school bus.  First we went to Snake temple at Suriya Nagar on our way to Alagarkoil.  Then we reached Alagarkoil around 10 a.m.  There we went inside the temple premises and saw two elephants and many monkeys.  We met some foreign tourists also there and our Miss spoke to one of them.  After climbing the mountain to a short distance, we returned back.  Then we sat on a place outside the premises and had our lunch.  After finishing our lunch, we ate snacks.   Then we returned back to school.  It was a wonderful and memorable trip for me.

Alagarkoil temple is situated at a distance of about 21 kilometres from Madurai city.  The temple is situated in a sylvan surrounding.  The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and every year during summer, the reigning god Alagar is drawn in a simple chariot to Madurai city for the people to worship him.  The function is celebrated with pomp for about a week.  Thousands of devotees in and around Madurai flog the city to worship Alagar.
